Saturday, November 18Today I'm Hating
...people who put track numbers in the file name after they've already filled out the ID3 tags. I hate having to edit 01, 02, 03 out of an album just to get the files to list the way I want to. This is the internet. No one really gives a shit what the track number is - and if they do, they can look in the fucking ID3 tag.

Friday, September 15Justin Timberlake
Boredum and Good Morning America tends to deal a strange combination of activities for me and, this morning, it was a Justin Timberlake album - namely, the new one.
No. Okay, i've never been that big of a fan - or...a fan at all, really - but I'm not impressed. The new single - SexyBack - isn't bad. I hated it more before I heard it so often...lately, the clubby-hip-hop scene has softened up and it tends to take me a bit longer to warm up to things so, ya know, it got me eventually. At least it got me to grab the album. I thought "I Think She Knows" was going to be OK from the first few seconds but, nah...it tripped into that girlie-man, boy band sound way too quickly, and I almost choked on "What Goes Around Comes Around." So, yeah, this is what happens when I have nothing else to blog about. It's a pity I don't feel more free to post about my actual life :P Sorry all. Normally, I'm not a Christina fan.
Sorry, I just felt the need to say that :P Anyway, so way back in the day when she did that track with Nelly - the one they performed live at some awards show - there was a red flapper dress involved and Nelly was wearing a fedora - I was impressed because my life of the 20's, 30's and 40's has never been denied. The reason, in case you're wondering, that I don't know the name of the song is simple - I can't, or won't, listen to it without the video of the performance because that song is theatrical and the performance is half the fun. Well, that was pretty much the end of that and I let it go but when she released the video for Ain't No Other Man a few weeks ago, Mike showed it to me right away becuase he knows how I feel about the era. That poor man has been forced to sit through more Kay Kyser than any man ever should have to and I think he was just looking forward to having new songs that sounded kinda like that but with a more modern twist. I was excited, but not yet convinced. One track does not a cd full of great music make. So tonight, I got my hands on the album and I was greeted with Candyman. I looped and looped and looped. I may not find out how the rest of the album is because i'm now officially addicted...and dancing in my socks :) <---- happy girl :) Wednesday, June 21It's AC/DC!The last couple of nights i've been channel surfing somewhat more than I do and I was exposed to some...interesting...bands. My friends have been joking for years that it's 1985 again and I was terrified when boys started showing up in skinny jeans which, when coupled with the long hair and pink shoes, makes them impossible to distinguish from the girls their age. What's worse - a few nights ago I was watching one of those horrible Late Night shows that really haven't worked since Sinatra died and I hear what must have literally been AC/DC - except the guy had really curly red hair. Then, tonight I turned on anther show and saw a band with a chick and went - AC/DC with girls instead of a school boy - but AC/DC none the less... Annoyed. Saturday, April 22Poor Sad Punk
This morning a phone rang. A loud phone. An obnoxious phone. A phone playing some indie wanna-be punk metal band at 100 decibals louder than a cellphone should ever be permitted to emit sound before coffee has been consumed - particularly that sound.
The sound I was hearing - none other than Avenged Sevenfold. Why is this blog worthy? Well, for one thing, because mp3 ringtones were supposed to make the experience of a cellular phone ringing more pleasent - the sound was better and the track could be far more appealing than a midi rendition of the fifth symphony. And then people found volume control and bad music. I sincerly considered entitling this post "Ahh! My Ears! My Morals! My Sensabilities!" I dont remember the exact date 2 drink minimum tickets for avenged sevenfold first landed in my hands, but I can say I've seen them a fair few times, as openers or that middle state that a band becomes when they get to do half of their album rather than three songs. Trust me, it was never on purpose. Nevertheless, a 13-year old cried out "What do you mean indie wanna-be punk metal? Have you never heard Avenged Sevenfold." At this point, I dropped the french press on the living room floor. Don't worry, the coffee is OK. Good Charlotte - the poppiest of all pop-punk has confused our little hoodlums - they actually think Avenged Sevenfold is hard rock. I feel an instinctive urge to sit him down in a sound booth with real music and do my best to remain patient. Poor sad punk. |
